Marc Devigne covers “The Murder of Me” by O'Gonzo

When listening to this dry and poetic waltz on which flows Marc Devigne’s deep and powerful voice, one could forget that the original song was born in the steel works of Cincinnati. Here, magic seems to occur transforming the original track, born in the industrial wasteland, into a light and airy ballad that emphasises the song-writing talents of Travis Jones. “I have trapped my soul in a shallow dream/And conquered the world, it turned me ugly and mean”, inflects Marc Devigne. Gone are the ear-shattering guitar riffs therefore allowing the song to come to the fore in all of its tragic splendour; the tale of a man who wishes to be reborn so as to please the one he let down. A deeply moving story of resurrection over which hovers the ghost of Johnny Cash.

Lyrics: Well I am not the one you thought I was / I always tried to pretend / I did like I was someone else / Now I need to, to have another dance, to have another chance / I‘ll rewrite a new end / Well I am not the king you thought I was / I’ve kept turning and turning around /A treasure, I have never found / And in the end, shall I have another chance, shall I have another dance ? / And in the end, I give up my burden and / I turn into someone different / I saw a devil take me / Out of my skin I get free / I am a stranger to me / Such a stranger to me /As I walk down in the sunset to the sea, I reborn in a way you love me / I have trapped my soul, in a shallow dream / And conquered the world, it turned me ugly and mean / I have dazzled you, in a glittering night / I saw your eyes gleam / Now I need to, to have another dance, to have another chance / Now I need to, to give up my burden and I turn into someone different / I saw a devil take me / Out of my skin I get free / I am a stranger to me / Such a stranger to me / As I walk down in the sunset to the sea / I return in a way you love me / Murder of me, murder of me, murder me / Once by the sea, I strip down and I sleep, I drift in the swell and I wake up in hell, hell, hell...
