Ray Wilko reprend «This Is The End» de Katchaturian

A la langueur organique du titre original, Ray Wilko oppose une cadence endiablée. Exit la longue intro à la harpe, remplacée par un piano énervé et un riff saturé, tremplin pour les paroles lâchées dans un souffle. Ray Wilko densifie à tel point la matière qu’il boucle sa reprise – tube en puissance! – en moins de quatre minutes. Une fulgurance pop rock qui ne trahit pas l’esprit du collectif lisboète, dont l’ironie transparaît à travers la présence entêtante d’un banjo.

Ray Wilko (Berne, Suisse)

Multi-instrumentiste, Ray Wilko a débuté sa carrière en 1996 avec l’album solo «Subzero» (Weltrekords). Une étincelle qui a mis le feu aux poudres, notre homme et sa bande ayant aligné les albums impeccables et allumé les scènes de Suisse et d’ailleurs, avec un concert mémorable au festival South By Southwest à Austin, Texas. A cheval entre indie rock et alternative country, ce songwriter, croisement entre Frank Black et Elvis Costello, qualifie sa musique de «profane pop music». Dernier album en date: «You And Me» (Weltrekords, 2008).
